Date 1931! Antique Medal with Engraving by George Frank Bickerton (Higher Resolution Photos)

PRICE: €430 | MATERIAL: OUR REF : 1122

A wonderfully characterful Antique 9ct Gold Medal Pendant with beautiful engraving.

The pendant has a handsome traditional medal design, with a circular body framed by decorative ribbon-like detailing and an ornate engraved crest at the top. At the centre is a raised shield-shaped that is surrounded by beautifully engraved foliate decoration. The reverse of the shield remains plain, while the other side carries its wonderful original presentation engraving, including the date letter for 1931.

The Makers Mark appears to read G.F.B, although the final letter has suffered a little wear. We believe this to be the mark of George Frank Bickerton, a Birmingham maker associated with jewellery and medal work of this period.

At approximately 30mm by 23mm, excluding the bail, the pendant weighs 4.3 grams. It is a lovely wearable size, it’s substantial enough to be noticed without overwhelming a chain. A jump ring is included for ease of attachment, so it can be added straight onto an Albert chain, necklace or charm bracelet.

One of our favourite things about this piece is its colour. Rather than the brighter yellow associated with modern 9ct Gold, it has developed a beautiful soft, mellow antique hue. This makes it incredibly easy to style into any collection of antique gold, whether worn with traditional Yellow Gold or warmer Rose Gold pieces.

It would look particularly fabulous hanging from an antique Albert chain, either worn alone or layered amongst other fobs and charms. The combination of the shield, original engraving, beautifully aged gold and surviving Makers Mark gives it exactly the individuality we look for in genuine antique jewellery.

All photography is done in-house. These images are not enhanced or airbrushed — what you see is exactly the item you will receive.
