Date 1922! Round Antique Medal by Thomas Fattorini (Higher Resolution Photos)

PRICE: €880 | MATERIAL: OUR REF : 1126

A particularly handsome and unusual Antique 9ct Gold Medal that was fully hallmarked in Birmingham in 1922.

The front features a raised blank shield-shaped cartouche that sits proudly at the centre, surrounded by finely engraved concentric decoration. The combination of the shield and crown gives the fob a wonderfully traditional British appearance, while the untouched cartouche offers the possibility of adding a personal engraving if desired.

The reverse is considerably plainer, allowing the crisp British hallmarks to take centre stage. These include the T.F Makers Mark for Thomas Fattorini, alongside the 9 and .375 marks confirming 9ct Gold, Birmingham Assay Mark and date letter for 1922.

Thomas Fattorini is a particularly nice name to find on a piece like this. The Fattorini firm has a long history of producing medals, badges, insignia and presentation pieces, and that heritage is very evident in the quality and almost medal-like construction of this fob.

It measures approximately 35mm by 27mm, excluding the bail, giving it excellent presence without being overly large. Its most distinctive feature is the wonderfully detailed crown surmount, complete with fleur-de-lis motifs, beaded detailing and scrolling flourishes. It gives the piece an almost regal quality and makes it far more interesting than a traditional plain shield fob.

The gold has developed a beautiful mellow antique hue, allowing it to sit comfortably alongside both Rose and Yellow Gold. It would look superb hanging from an antique Albert chain, either worn alone as a statement piece or incorporated into a collection of antique fobs.

All photography is done in-house. These images are not enhanced or airbrushed — what you see is exactly the item you will receive.
