Date 1920! Antique Medal on an Antique Belcher Chain (Higher Resolution Photos)

PRICE: €1,550 | MATERIAL: OUR REF : 1134

A lovely Antique 9ct Gold Medal Necklace dating back to 1920 with wonderful detailing and a beautifully mellow antique gold colour that gives the piece so much character.

The circular medal measures approximately 26mm in diameter and features an ornate central shield surrounded by intricate scrollwork and finely textured decoration. The blank shield gives the piece the appearance of an antique fob or sporting medal, yet without engraving it remains wonderfully versatile and could even be personalised if desired. The contrasting textures across the medal catch the light beautifully and really highlight the quality of the early 20th-Century craftsmanship.

The reverse carries a full Chester hallmark for 1920, together with the Makers Mark P&M for Phillips & Mayell. Chester-hallmarked jewellery is particularly sought after today, not least because the Chester Assay Office closed in 1962, making surviving pieces an increasingly collectable part of British jewellery history.

The medal is accompanied by a gorgeous 18-inch Antique Belcher Chain, formed from rounded links that complement the substantial proportions of the pendant perfectly. Rather than a conventional modern clasp, the chain is finished with a swivel clasp, a detail we particularly love on antique chains and one that gives the necklace an unmistakably period feel.

At 15.5 grams in total, this is a wonderfully substantial piece. It has enough presence to look fantastic worn completely on its own, while the 18-inch length also makes it ideal for layering with shorter or longer antique chains.

The gold has that gorgeous warm antique hue that sits somewhere between traditional Yellow and Rose Gold, meaning it works beautifully alongside both colours. This makes it particularly easy to mix into an existing collection of antique gold jewellery without worrying about perfectly matching the tone.

All photography is done in-house. These images are not enhanced or airbrushed — what you see is exactly the item you will receive.
