Date 1908! Antique 9ct Gold Medal by William Light (Higher Resolution Photos)

PRICE: €750 | MATERIAL: OUR REF : 1140

A gorgeous Antique Medal crafted from 9ct Gold.

The front is almost architectural in its design, with sweeping scrolls, pierced sections and finely hand-engraved foliage surrounding a circular central cartouche. Further floral engraving runs across the lower section, while the unusual openwork construction gives the medal an elegant, almost lace-like quality. The centre remains completely blank and free from engraving, leaving plenty of room for personalisation if desired.

The reverse is refreshingly simple, allowing the intricacy of the front to do all the talking, and carries a lovely clear set of British hallmarks. These confirm 9ct Gold, Birmingham 1908, alongside the WL Makers Mark for William Light.

At 39mm long by 28mm wide, excluding the bail, this is a generously sized medal, but it is the weight that really sets it apart. At 7.5 grams of 9ct Gold, it feels beautifully substantial in the hand and has the presence to accompany one of our heavier antique chains or Alberts.

We particularly love the balance of this piece. It is decorative without being overly ornate, substantial without looking cumbersome, and at well over 100 years old, it has survived with its beautiful, engraved details remarkably well preserved.

All photography is done in-house. These images are not enhanced or airbrushed — what you see is exactly the item you will receive.
