Date 1884! Antique Opal and Seed Pearl Ring (Higher Resolution Photos)

PRICE: €950 | MATERIAL: OUR REF : 1177

An absolutely exquisite Antique 18ct Yellow Gold Opal and Seed Pearl Navette Ring, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship and romantic elegance of Victorian jewellery.

Taking centre stage is a slender marquise-shaped opal, measuring approximately 9mm by 3.5mm. The opal displays a mesmerising play of colour, with flashes of vivid green, electric blue and soft pink dancing across its surface as it moves in the light. Its elongated shape is wonderfully elegant, creating a delicate yet striking focal point that draws the eye immediately.

Surrounding the opal is a beautifully arranged border of lustrous seed pearls, each individually set within the rich yellow gold mount. Their soft, silvery-white sheen provides a gorgeous contrast against the opal's shifting colours, creating a harmonious combination that was particularly fashionable during the Victorian period. The pearls follow the elongated navette shape perfectly, giving the ring a refined, almost regal appearance.

The craftsmanship continues into the shoulders, which feature the most delightful scrolling goldwork. These decorative shoulders are a particularly charming feature, adding an unmistakable sense of Victorian romance while allowing the ring to sit elegantly on the finger.

Crafted in 18ct Yellow Gold, the ring has a wonderfully rich, buttery colour that complements the gemstones beautifully. The gold is polished to a gorgeous finish, highlighting the intricate details of the setting and the flowing lines of the shoulders.

One of the most exciting features of this piece is its exceptionally clear markings. The inside of the band bears a crisp 18ct gold stamp alongside the Makers Mark D&F, attributed to Deakin & Francis Ltd. The firm's history can be traced to Birmingham, where Stephen Henry Deakin and John Horace Francis, who were brothers-in-law, established their jewellery-making partnership. The business was associated with Regent Place and became known for its fine jewellery and decorative goldwork.

Weighing 2.7 grams and measuring a Size O, the ring is in immaculate condition for its age, with beautifully preserved detailing and an exceptionally attractive overall appearance. Its combination of colourful opal, delicate seed pearls and richly coloured gold makes it a truly enchanting example of Antique jewellery.
