A fabulous Victorian gold purse from 1891 which has been immaculately preserved.
We can only dream of the moments when this was paraded about the town all those years ago, if only it could talk can you images the tales it could tell!
Hallmarked in 1891 and imported by Paul Ettlinger the purse is made of 9ct gold using various techniques. The body of the purse is flexible and there are no visible defects to the interconnecting links which is really quite astonishing, given its age. The purse closes with solid 9ct gold bars and buckle. It has a 9ct bail so can be worn as a heavy charm, necklace or secured on the inside of a handbag.
Paul Ettlinger was an importer who specialized in bringing solid gold & silver purses & vanities from the continent to England between 1890 - 1920.
