18ct Yellow Gold LONG Albert Chain with Medal by Fattorini & Sons (Higher Resolution Photos)

PRICE: €12,250 | MATERIAL: OUR REF : 1146

A truly gorgeous Antique 18ct Gold Albert Chain that combines substantial weight, exceptional length and beautiful period details – including a wonderful removable medal by one of Britain’s most celebrated medal makers, Fattorini & Sons.

The chain itself is formed from substantial 5.5mm uniformed curb links, which are beautifully shaped and individually stamped. This repeated stamping is one of those fabulous details we love to see on a quality antique Albert as it gives the chain unmistakable period character.

The chain measures approximately 18.5 inches in length, making it considerably longer than many traditional Albert chains. That extra length makes a real difference when worn as a necklace, allowing it to sit beautifully around the neckline rather than very close to the neck. Interestingly, approximately one inch has been added to the chain, which can be seen in the photographs. Far from detracting from the piece, we think the additional length makes this Albert particularly wearable for the modern collector.

The necklace features the Makers Mark CDB and dates to approximately 1885, placing it firmly within the Victorian era. It retains its traditional swivel fittings, allowing it to be worn in several different ways and making it equally suited to displaying an antique pendant, fob or medal.

The medal measures approximately 30mm x 28mm and is completely removable, so the Albert can be worn either with or without it. It was made by Fattorini & Sons, one of our favourite historic British medal makers and a name with an extraordinary heritage in the production of medals, badges and insignia. This is a particularly early Fattorini piece, dated 1857 in Birmingham. The ornate pierced decoration is wonderful, with scrolling foliate detailing surrounding a central shield-shaped cartouche. It gives the Albert enormous character without overwhelming the chain itself.
