62" 9ct Gold Longuard Chain
Absolutely delighted to present this original Victorian longuard (or muff chain) chain crafted from 9ct yellow gold. It is rare to be able to offer such a piece in the €1000 range and for that we must thank its intricate hollow belcher link. We must not be dismissive of its weight though as at 25.7 grams this is still a substantial piece.
The metal itself tests above 9ct gold on an XRF analyser and this is illustrated by its rich yellow hue. The swivel and bolt ring have a somewhat rose tint and the swivel is stamped 9ct. Despite the slight mismatch in the colour between the swivel and the chain we decided to leave the chain in its original form, the difference only adding to the charm. They could of course be changed on request.
We would expect this chain to have been crafted at some point in the late 1800s and as such there are some signs of wear on some of the links. In our opinion this only adds to the charm and in absolutely no way does this wear compromise the necklace at all.
