This is a seriously fabulous Antique 15ct Gold Albert Chain that is beautifully made, wonderfully substantial and has one of the most attractive link designs you could ask for.
Rather than a traditional curb, this example features 5mm trombone-style links, alternating elongated rectangular links with smaller round connecting links. The open construction gives the chain a lighter, more elegant appearance while the substantial 38-gram weight ensures that it still feels wonderfully luxurious in the hand.
The chain measures approximately 16 inches in length, with additional length created by the fabulous sliding T-bar drop at the front. This gives the piece a particularly striking appearance when worn as a necklace, with the T-bar sitting beautifully below the main chain.
The fittings are particularly special. There is a large 40mm T-bar, together with both a bolt ring and traditional swivel, giving plenty of options for attaching an antique fob, medal, pendant or charm. The T-bar can be positioned to hang prominently at the front, as photographed, creating a fabulous focal point. The photographs also show the 15 / 625 stamps clearly visible on the fittings, a lovely detail and one that immediately identifies its now obsolete 15ct Gold standard.
Pieces like this are becoming increasingly difficult to source – particularly in 15ct gold, at this weight, with the original-style fittings and such a distinctive link. It has everything we love about antique Alberts: beautiful craftsmanship, substantial gold weight, character, versatility and fittings that simply aren't replicated in the same way today.
It would look absolutely fantastic worn alone, particularly with an open shirt or simple neckline, where the unusual trombone links and long T-bar can really be appreciated.
